Course summary

Intellectual property law is a niche area with huge applications, critical to fostering innovation and the protection of ideas. Our LLM Intellectual Property Law cuts across disciplines, sectors and perspectives with opportunities to critically reflect and explore the challenges from every aspect, from commercial business to fashion, medicine to the creative arts. This programme is ideal for anyone seeking knowledge of the main legislative instruments at both a national and international level. Students will have the opportunity to develop familiarity with some of the major cases and developments in these areas. Intellectual Property law is constantly responding to technological developments, and our diverse curriculum reflects this.

Modules

You follow a modular programme (180 credits in total), which comprises six taught modules (20 credits each) and a dissertation of 15,000 words (60 credits); the latter to be submitted at the end of the year of study. Students following the LLM Intellectual Property pathway study one compulsory module, Introduction to Legal Research, plus a minimum of three of their five optional modules from a specific selection that has typically included: Company Law; Cyberlaw; Intellectual Property Law; Regulating Technologies; International Trade Law and Policy; Law, Society and Governance


Entry requirements

Applicants should have a good Honours degree in law, or a degree in another discipline augmented with a pass in the Common Professional Examination.
