Course summary

Explore Marine Resource Management at a global top 100* university. On this double award MSc in Global Marine Resource Management, you'll undertake cross-disciplinary study in a multinational setting, studying at both the University of Southampton and at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). You'll be introduced to the multi-disciplinary sphere of marine science including physical, chemical, biological oceanography, and marine geology. You'll explore the potential and sustainable utilisation of marine resources. In your first semester you'll study at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), one of the world’s largest centres devoted to research and teaching in Earth and marine science and host to the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science. The international nature of the master’s programme allows you to work alongside experts in the field who have varied perspectives, gain access to state-of-the-art facilities, and benefit from opportunities and learning environments in two distinctive global marine settings. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Get hands-on training on board our research vessels as you explore the processes operating on marine ecosystems
  • Build a highly competitive, cross-national skillset as you study in the UK and Hong Kong

Assessment method

At Southampton, assessments are designed to equip you with the skills you need for success in your career. On this course, you'll be assessed through a combination of written examinations, oral presentations, essays, poster presentations, laboratory experiment reports, and fieldwork/boat work reports.

English language requirements: band G, IELTS 7.0 overall, with a minimum of 6.5 in all components.

Entry requirements

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in the following, with honors not lower than the second class or with an overall GPA not less than 70%: Ocean Science Marine Science Life Science Environmental Science Earth Science English is the medium of instruction at The University of Southampton (UoS) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
