Course summary
This new course has been designed to give you the ideal balance between a broad understanding of how businesses operate globally in an increasingly competitive environment, balanced with specialist knowledge of finance in an industry focused curriculum. This course supports your academic skills development and employability opportunities while providing knowledge of contemporary business management models and frameworks while developing your expertise about the theory and practice of finance. The course includes specialist modules in financial markets and institutions, decision making in the financial environment, and international finance and responsible management. You’ll gain first-hand experience of financial markets through using our Bloomberg terminals and taking advantage of opportunities to build a track record and portfolio. With a finance specialism as part of your degree award, you’ll have an extra edge in employability you will build your professional and practice capabilities through problem-based and experiential learning. This approach will equip you with the skills and qualities sought by employers across the private, public, and not-for-profit (NFP) sectors that underpin successful enterprise. The relevance, rigour and internationalisation of this course are set to meet some of the highest and most demanding levels of accreditation. This course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. What’s more, when you study at Northumbria, you’ll be part of a leading, business-focused university. Northumbria ranks within the sector as in top 30 for further study, sustained employment or both for Business and Management, 12 months after graduation. Assessment method
Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.
