Course summary
This programme aims to provide you with a secure knowledge of the major theories, concepts and issues relating to Politics and International Relations. You will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of a range of debates and discussions raised by past and present approaches to the subject. In addition, our aim is to equip you with the necessary skills appropriate to evaluating, analysing and interpreting both academic and practitioner approaches to Politics and International Relations. In addition to the core module of Major Approaches to the Study of International Relations you will choose two optional modules from the range available in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion.
Modules
Optional modules may include: Theorising security and war; theory and concepts in diplomacy and foreign policy; issues and practice in diplomacy and foreign policy; theory and methods in postgraduate studies; globalisation: its meanings, causes and consequences; major approaches to the study of international relations; politics and international relations of the Middle East; international relations and politics of South Asia; independent study module; conflict management and contemporary conflicts; public policy.
Assessment method
Assessment is through coursework.
Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree : 2:1 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in a relevant social science subject We may also consider non-standard applicants, please contact us for information. We may ask you to provide a recognised English language qualification, dependent upon your nationality and where you have studied previously. We normally require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 5.5 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.
