Course summary

The Early Childhood Studies one-year top-up course builds on your previous early years study giving you the chance to complete an honours degree. So if you love children and want to work with them, this course will help to get you there. Studying Early Years gives you the opportunity to work in a wide range of careers, such as:

  • Children's Centre Worker
  • Nursery Nurse
  • Lead Practitioner.
This course is taught at four of our partner colleges:
  • Solihull College
  • New College Swindon, will be open to recruitment for 2023 entry only.
  • Abingdon and Witney College
  • Wiltshire College and University Centre - full time - part time.
You may wish to continue your studies through progression to Early Years Teacher (EYT). Or beyond to become involved in research or academia. To apply for this course you will have completed the foundation degree in Early Years. Or equivalent Level 5 sector-endorsed qualification foundation degree.

Modules

The modules allow you to explore key aspects of early childhood education and care that are of a particular interest to you. They will also help to build up your academic skills in preparation for your final dissertation and prepare you well for progression to the next level, for example a PGCE or master's degree. Typically in the one-year top-up course you will study eight modules.
