Course summary

This programme covers the skills and knowledge that can be applied to a range of animal management industries, particularly in the areas of substantial and varied animal collections. A focus on the key aspect of species conservation, within a captive setting, promoting natural environments and behaviours to support conservation efforts. This programme requires students to undertake 300 hours of work placement, 150 of which will be undertaken in the colleges licenced and BIAZA accredited wildlife and conservation park in the first year.

Year 1 (Level 4) Core Modules include: • Academic Writing and Research • Animal Anatomy and Physiology, • Practical Animal Health and Husbandry • Human - Zoo Animal Interactions • Interpretive Enclosure Design Optional Modules, choose 1 • Zoo Ethics • Exotic Animal Behaviour Year 2 (Level 5) Core Modules include: • Independent Research Project • Collections Management • Collections Husbandry • Introduction to Conservation Genetics Optional Modules, choose 2: • Incubation and Rearing • Management of Habitats and Protected Areas • Conservation Education • Principles of Animal Training

Assessment method

Assessments may include; Course work, TCA's, online assessment, presentations, Viva-voce and practical assessments.
