Civil Engineering

Course summary

Our HNC in Civil Engineering is a vocational higher education qualification, equivalent to the first year of a university degree. The HNC Civil Engineering course focuses on equipping you with the practical and personal skills needed for the workplace. The Civil Engineering course is designed to broaden your work based skills with the view of working towards a Senior Technician position within the profession or further study at degree level. You’ll develop an appreciation of engineering principles, IT and personal skills, and the ability to apply them through the medium of design and project work. Our Civil Engineering courses are designed to ensure you are highly employable and a valuable addition to the industry. The areas you will study include all the subjects necessary to meet the expectations of employers, preparing you for a career in this challenging and rewarding field. Project modules are based on ‘live’ schemes, supported by guest lectures from professional engineers and, where appropriate, field courses are included to consolidate the knowledge gained in class and help you apply it in real-life situations. This Civil Engineering course is based at Treforest. USW Treforest is surrounded by green open spaces. Our students say they love the warm and friendly welcome and community atmosphere, as well as the convenience of living and studying in the same place. From listed buildings to new, modern structures, Treforest reflects the University’s history and its ambitions. Here you will find everything you need in one place - halls of residence, the library and sport centre, cafes and bars to eat and drink, and friends to spend time with.

Assessment method

Many modules are continually assessed while other modules are a mixture of continuous assessment and examination.
