Course summary
The Legal Practice Course (LPC) is a postgraduate legal qualification that is the final academic step for aspiring solicitors. Once successfully completed, you can go on to a training contract before fully qualifying as a solicitor. Our LPC Online offers you the best possible preparation to practise law with the skills to succeed in business. If you’re looking for an online route to your career as a solicitor, with the same qualification as our on campus alternative, our supported study programme is the perfect solution. Please note that the last online intake (part-time) for the LPC will be in September 2026. Before you start your LPC we will need confirmation from you that you have understood the need to successfully complete the LPC, ie to pass both Stages 1 and 2, by August 2030, and that if not you will need to undertake the SQE examinations to meet SRA requirements. Modules
Stage 1 modules: Introduction to Professional Practice Business Law and Practice Knowledge and Skills Dispute Resolution Knowledge and Skills Real Estate Knowledge and Skills Stage 2 modules: Students choose 3 electives for the LPC, and students on the LLM LPC may study a 4th elective. The University offers the following electives which cover corporate, commercial and private client practice areas. Electives available to students starting the LPC in or after January 2025 Corporate and Commercial Practice Electives Commercial Law & Practice Employment Law & Practice Intellectual Property Law & Practice Commercial and Private Client Practice Electives Commercial Law & Practice Employment Law & Practice Intellectual Property Law & Practice Advanced Criminal Law and Practice* Family Law & Practice Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Law & Practice Private Client Law & Practice Mergers and Acquisitions Law & Practice* Please note: *Students cannot study both Advanced Criminal Law and Practice and Mergers and Acquisitions Law and Practice as the exams take place at the same time. All elective choices on all modes are subject to demand and timetabling constraints, and we cannot guarantee that all subjects will be available at any campus. To enable us to run appropriate transactional style workshop activities the minimum number of students required for a class is usually 10. LLM in Professional Legal Practice (optional) To receive an LLM in Professional Legal Practice students will study an additional elective module of your choice. All LLM students will also undertake a self-study Professional Practice Research Report module. If you choose not to complete the LLM in Professional Legal Practice you will be issued with a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and will still have completed the vocational stage of training requirements.
Assessment method
Assessed through a range of assessments including oral assessments in Interviewing and Advocacy, and open book exams. If you choose to study your LPC with a Master’s you will also be assessed with a written report and an oral assessment.

Entry requirements
To be eligible to take up your place on our LPC, you must comply with the requirements for commencing a Legal Practice Course (LPC) set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Students must possess either a Qualifying Law Degree, usually at 2:2 or above, or a Common Professional Examination (CPE)/Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or similar qualification, such as CILEX. Your law degree must meet certain academic standards in order to qualify. This must include having adequately passed assessments in the seven Foundations of Legal Knowledge; Public Law, Obligations I (Contract), Obligations II (Tort), Criminal Law, Land Law, Equity & Trusts and Law of the European Union. English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
