What is computer science – and why study the subject at university? Computer science is the study of how computers solve problems, combining theory and practical skills in areas such as programming, algorithms, and automation. It plays a central role in modern life, powering everything from mobile apps to medical technology. Our Computer Science BSc(Hons) course begins with a common first year shared across computing degrees, giving you a strong foundation in core concepts before progressing to more specialised topics in later years. Our Computer Science BSc(Hons) degree allows you to hone vital skills to better succeed in this fast-paced industry – and, like previous graduates, you could go on to secure a role within, for example, AI programming or DevOps. This course will see you explore subjects including software engineering, object-orientated programming, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Entry is also possible from the Engineering Foundation Year. To progress onto this course from the Foundation Year you must pass all modules and achieve an average mark of 40% or above.
