Course summary
MSc Management and Implementation of Development Projects is a unique interdisciplinary course delivered jointly by three prestigious institutions at The University of Manchester: the Global Development Institute, Alliance Manchester Business School, and the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. This collaboration brings together cutting-edge expertise in development, management, and engineering, ensuring you graduate with the tools to turn ambitious plans into lasting, real-world impact. You’ll gain a deep understanding of how to design, manage, and implement development projects that are both technically sound and socially inclusive. From large-scale infrastructure projects to community-led economic initiatives, the course explores the full spectrum of project-based development interventions in low- and middle-income countries. What sets this MSc apart is its dual focus; you'll develop the practical management skills needed to navigate complex international environments, alongside the critical insights required to evaluate and improve development outcomes. Whether you're working in civil engineering, public sector reform, or social enterprise, you'll learn how to lead projects that not only succeed on paper; but also empower communities, strengthen institutions, and promote sustainable development. This is more than a degree in development project management: it's a launchpad for professionals who want to make a measurable difference.
