Modules

Year 1 You’ll build a strong foundation in construction and project management, exploring the roles of industry professionals and the full building life cycle. Key areas include building technology, architectural drawing and CADD, environmental services, surveying techniques and material science. Practical workshops, lab sessions and a residential field course give you hands-on experience from the start. Core modules Introduction to the Built Environment Building Technology and Design 1 Building Technology and Design 2 Indoor Environment and Building Services 1 Land and Construction Surveying Construction Materials for Built Environment Year 2 You’ll build on your first-year knowledge and focus on project management in greater depth. Key areas include building information modelling (BIM), construction methods, cost and contract administration and professional practice. You’ll also explore environmental services for complex buildings and learn how to plan and deliver projects efficiently across the entire life cycle. Core modules Building Information Modelling Construction Project Management Professional Practice Construction Methods and Technology Indoor Environment and Building Services 2 Construction Project Management Cost and Contract Administration Optional Placement Year You can choose a salaried professional placement after year two, gaining hands-on experience with construction firms, project management consultancies or major contractors. This year allows you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects such as planning, scheduling, cost control and managing health and safety on site. You’ll develop practical skills in project coordination, contract administration and client communication, while building valuable industry contacts. The placement enhances your employability and confidence, giving you a competitive edge for careers in construction project management and related fields. Final year You’ll complete an independent research project and develop advanced expertise in project planning, construction management and sustainable building practices. Core modules focus on managing complex projects, balancing time, cost and performance, while option modules enable you to specialise in areas such as risk analysis or building adaptation to match your career goals. The fees listed in the table above are for full-time UK undergraduate students in academic year 2025-26. You will pay further fees in each year of your course. Fees may increase each year. UK undergraduate and certain postgraduate fees are regulated by the UK government. The annual fee increase will not exceed the UK government's maximum regulated tuition fee limit set for the relevant academic year. Many of our courses include the option of a salaried placement year. Tuition fees for a placement year are charged at a lower rate of £1850. The international tuition fees listed above are for full-time courses during the academic year 2025-26. Further tuition fees are payable in each year of study.
