Assessment method

The course is primarily delivered through lectures and seminars, with occasional guest presentations by leading international academics and practitioners. Lectures are designed to provide the key content of a particular topic and seminars will give you the opportunity to join smaller groups to discuss and debate issues raised in lectures or resulting from your independent study. Among the core modules, you will be required to complete a dissertation or a business project. The dissertation will allow you to carry out independent research and develop your skills in analysis and scholarly expression, using an appropriate theoretical framework. It can be undertaken here at Durham or can be internationally focused. The business project usually involves an external organisation and gives you the opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the course to solve a real-life problem. Assessment for this course is thorough and ongoing. You will be assessed by assignments, exams and a major dissertation or business project. You will be expected to carry out a significant amount of independent study in preparation for these assignments and the other forms of assessment including exams.
