Course summary

French Studies research at Birmingham explores how the study of languages, discourses, and cultures challenges how we understand and experience the world. Our internationally recognised excellent research in French Studies ranges from the Renaissance to the contemporary period, with a focus on 20th and 21st centuries. French Studies is part of the Department of Modern Languages, which boasts a vibrant postgraduate community and provides a range of support for its research students.


Entry requirements

Applicants for a PhD will also need to hold a Masters qualification at Merit level or above (or its international equivalent), usually in a relevant area.
