Course summary
This BSc (Hons) Banking with Financial Technology focuses on developing strong analytical, statistical, programming and coding skills, with an in-depth, real-world understanding of financial institutions and the economics that underlies them. It covers traditional banking and finance concepts, as well as cutting-edge topics like coding, machine learning, databases, personal finance, investments, insurance, and regulation – from a fintech perspective. Throughout the degree, you will relate your learning to what is happening in the wider world, and the impact of the global financial system on individuals, organisations, markets, the wider economy and environment. You can explore fintech innovations like high frequency trading or cryptocurrency. Our own cutting-edge research into data analytics, credit and investor behaviour or the financial theories used in business feeds into our teaching. Classroom discussion will introduce contemporary trends, such as the growing popularity of online-only banks, or how and why people use investment apps alongside trends such as Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and the Internet of Things (IoT). You’ll have access to current and historical financial data for the UK and overseas markets, and the same tools and software used by the world’s leading banks, corporations, governments and government agencies. Practising within a safe virtual environment, you will learn how to trade funds in our very own trading floor. ‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch. If you don’t have the required qualifications for this degree-level course or are looking to re-enter education after time away from study, then a Foundation Year Programme might be the right choice for you. Please see Banking with Financial Technology (with Foundation Year) N32F.
