Explore how language lies at the heart of human life and society with our BA English Language and Linguistics degree. This course examines how language is crucial to our understanding of ourselves as members of society, as individuals, and as a species. At the University of Reading, you’ll join our friendly, collaborative Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics. We’re proud of our:

Modules
The following modules have been approved in principle for delivery in 2024/25. Please note that as part of our current curriculum improvement process, all modules require final University approval and may be subject to change. Core modules for this course: English Language and Society; Techniques and Skills for Applied Linguistics; Sounds, Grammar and Meaning; Globalization and Language; Discourse Analysis; English Grammar and Phonology; Sociolinguistics; Language in Professional Communication; Professional Communication Project; Dissertation. The University cannot guarantee that all optional modules will be available to all students who may wish to take them. Further information about the content of final approved modules will be available between May and July 2023.
