Course summary

Criminology is one of the most diverse, stimulating and challenging subjects offered at university. It draws on disciplines such as psychology, sociology, social policy, law and even biology to investigate pressing social problems. Social Policy explores issues such as social citizenship rights, questions of justice and fairness, what we should consider as basic human needs and how these should be met. This degree in Criminology and Social Policy combines two exciting and rapidly-developing subject areas that each have an enormous influence on all of our lives. Criminology at Swansea is ranked:

You will explore key theories and debates relating to how societies meet the needs of their citizens and the ways that social policies are shaped by the causes and effects of crime on individuals and communities. You will also examine themes and values such as social justice, equality, fairness, and citizenship, alongside specific policy focal points such as crime, health, education, housing, disability, poverty, and the family, as well as gaining an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system. Throughout your degree, you will develop excellent research and analytical skills and the ability to communicate your ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing. You will spend a year abroad between your second and final year, broadening your skills and experience. Our partner institutions span the globe, with opportunities varying each year. All applications are considered on an individual basis, with GCSE grades, AS Level subjects and grades, work experience, references and personal statement taken into account. Variable offers are made dependent on subjects studied.
