Course summary
Applied biosciences explores life at all levels from chemicals, molecules and cells to organ systems, laying the foundation for a career in human health and disease. This course aims to provide you with a solid grounding for building a career in the health and bioscience sectors if you are unable to follow the more traditional route onto a degree course. The foundation year of the course provides you with an understanding of cell biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, health and disease. It acts as an introduction to your chosen subject and helps you develop the necessary skills for degree-level study. The Applied Biosciences BSc (Hons) degree aims to develop autonomous scientists of the future — you can expect to explore human health and illness, how they are managed in the context of research as well as how populations, communities and the environment influence them. If you choose to leave the degree course after successfully passing Year 1, you will be eligible for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied Biosciences. If you choose to leave the degree course after successfully passing Year 2, you will be eligible for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Applied Biosciences.
