During your studies you'll have the opportunity to participate in doctoral level research training, attend research forums, and complete a professional development programme for postgraduates. Our Health sciences PhD is available to study in person or remotely. For our in person route, you’ll be based at Highfield campus or at our clinical academic facility at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Modules

The PhD by Research programme is an entirely research-oriented programme in which students conduct original research under the guidance of their supervisors.

Assessment method

You'll need to demonstrate satisfactory progress at the end of each year. Your supervisor will complete an annual report that takes into account how you have progressed against your agreed targets, which include training and development activities.

If English is not your first language, you'll need an IELTS minimum level of 6.5 with a 6.0 in writing, reading, speaking and listening

2:1 undergraduate degree in a health related subject English language requirements: If English is not your first language, you'll need an IELTS minimum level of 6.5 with a 6.0 in writing, reading, speaking and listening. Your awarded certificate needs to be dated within the last 2 years. If you need further English language tuition before starting your degree, you can apply for one of our pre-sessional English language courses. Requirements for advertised projects. You can either apply for a structured studentship or propose your own PhD idea. We offer scholarships and teaching bursaries ourselves. Your potential supervisor can guide you on what is available. If you’re an international student you may be able to apply for a scholarship from your country.
