Modules

Software Engineering This module aims to provide students with knowledge in the analysis, design, implementation and testing of software systems. The module will provide students with an understanding of theory and practice to build reliable software systems that satisfy the requirements of users. Cloud Computing This module provides an overview of cloud computing, its technologies, and building blocks. It covers topics such as data centres, virtualisation, cloud storage, and various cloud paradigms. The course discusses motivating factors, benefits, challenges, and service models. It also explores concepts related to data centre design and management. The main topics of study include the fundamental ideas behind cloud computing, data centre design principles, virtualisation techniques, resource deployment and management in the cloud, and data centre standards and energy efficiency best practices. Database Systems This module aims to provide students with knowledge in the analysis, design, implementation and testing of software systems. The module will provide students with an understanding of theory and practice to build reliable software systems that satisfy the requirements of users. Computer Architecture and Networks This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the computer architecture, which includes the underlying relationship between the hardware and software components. This module also introduces students to the fundamentals of computer networking theory. Explore modern trends and development in Wireless, Mobile as well as Cloud computing. Research Dissertation Conduct a practical project of a Master level quality related to the scope of the selected MSc programme and develop skills appropriate for a senior computing professional. You will consider the ethical, legal, social, and professional issues, and the dissertation will require appropriate research, analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance, evaluation and project management. You will reflect on the success of the strategies that you employed to further develop your reflective skills, self-awareness, 'life style' and self-care approaches and where necessary improve your approaches.

Assessment method

You will be assessed using a mixture of practical coursework and a theory exam. Coursework can take a variety of forms, including laboratory work, data analysis and oral presentations. The Research Dissertation is assessed on a final written report, a poster presentation and a practical component. You will receive detailed feedback on all assessment outlining strengths and areas of improvement.

Minimum 2.2 Honours in a non-Computing subject.
