Course summary

The objective of the OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Project Management is to develop a learner’s practical project management skills and prepare them to work in a wide range of contexts. The Level 4 units provides an introduction to relevant project management principles and practice. All units include both theoretical and practical content. Units are: • Principles of Project Management • People Management • Introduction to Business Finance • Fundamentals of Management in Projects • Business Markets • Personal and Professional Development Students will also learn about the importance of reflecting on their current practice, identifying their own learning needs and professional development. Successful completion of the course will support learners progressing to university, and to provide learners with the requisite skills and knowledge to enter the world of work in their chosen sector.

• Principles of Project Management • People Management • Introduction to Business Finance • Fundamentals of Management in Projects • Business Marketing • Personal and Professional Development By the end of this course, you will be able to: • Be able to implement the key principles of project management and use project management tools and techniques. • Understand how external and internal factors can affect HRM decision making in relation to organisational development. • Be able to use financial planning tools to analyse financial data and assess business risks. • Understand the different types, structures, size and scope of organisations in project management. • Be able to develop a project plan to support a marketing campaign for an organisation. • Be able to create a personal development plan to become effective project leader and manager. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: Diploma in Project Management [OTHM]

Assessment method

You will be assessed by assignments, work-related projects, demonstration of professional competence in work-based situations, and practical activities that apply the knowledge you have gained. There are no written exams. When not attending timetabled sessions, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This will typically involve reading articles and books, working on individual projects, undertaking preparation of coursework assignments and presentations. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, the library and canvas, the online virtual learning platform.

Qualification requirements

Students who have recently been in education are likely to need one of the following: ● A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Business ● A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English ● Other related Level 3 qualifications ● An Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution ● Relevant work experience ● An international equivalent to the above qualifications. Our Recognition of Prior Learning policy means that students’ previous learning and experience can be taken into account, and they may be awarded certain qualifications or units of a qualification based on that learning or experience.

Candidates will be interviewed by the Course Leader to discuss whether they have the relevant skills and experience to successfully complete the course.


English language requirements

Students applying for this course will need a certain level of English language skills. This course is taught and assessed completely in English. Before accepting students onto the programme, we will ensure that those who are non-native English speakers and who have not had their final two years of schooling in English, can demonstrate ability equivalent to the standard of : ● Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 ● PTE Academic 51, or ● IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5)
