Build your knowledge as you discover how psychology and crime intersect. You'll build your understanding of criminal behaviour and why people commit crimes. As part of this course, you’ll:

  • Explore psychological behaviours associated with crime, including complex and extreme behaviours such as predatory, sexual, and violent crime
  • Understand key psychological theories and perspectives and their importance in laws, courts, and forensic investigations
  • Deepen your knowledge in investigative, forensic, and clinical psychology, mental health, and offending
  • Conduct your own criminological research
  • Gain skills for a successful career in criminal justice, social services, psychology, and legal and policy roles through volunteering, placements, and practitioner-focused modules

You'll learn from experts in forensic and criminal psychology, offender profiling, prisons, desistence, and sexual offending. Our teaching staff are members of the university’s Centre for Psychological Research and Centre for Applied Social Research and are actively engaged in research and policy. You'll benefit from insights and professional experience shared by guest practitioners as part of your modules. Past speakers have included police officers, magistrates, drug and alcohol practitioners, psychologists, and social workers. Building your future potential As a student in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, you’ll be encouraged to think about your future career right from the start of your learning journey. Information and advice about relevant future career options will be built into the first year of your degree. During your second and third years of study, you’ll be able to choose modules with live brief learning challenges (real life projects designed by employers) and work placement opportunities.
