Course summary
This HNC in Civil Engineering can lead to Graduate Member status with the Institution of Civil Engineers. Civil engineers undertake research and design, direct construction and manage the operation and maintenance of civil and mining engineering structures. You will attend the University Centre one day per week and will study key areas such as Science and Materials, Civil Engineering Technology, The Construction Environment and Principles of Structural Design. You will also be expected to conduct additional directed and independent study to complete the programme. This course can also be completed as part of a Higher Apprenticeship. Qualification requirements
4 GCSEs grade C or level 4 and above, plus 1 A Level, or 2AS Levels (40 points) BTEC National in a relevant construction/engineering qualification T-Level or an equivalent qualification A grade 6/B in mathematics is recommended. This can determine acceptance onto some higher education or degree programmes. If you hold a Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, you may be eligible for some accreditation for prior learning which can be discussed on an individual basis. You may be accepted on the course as a mature students if you have a suitable background or sector experience. There may be a requirement to complete an Aptitude assessment (this will be advised at interview). International students must have competent English-speaking skills and hold an IELTS score of 6.0. This can be discussed during the interview stage if there are any queries.
