Course summary

Nutrition is the scientific study of nutrients and other substances in food, and how they affect our growth, health and disease. A nutritionist may apply their knowledge in a wide variety of careers which include specialisms in public health nutrition, sports and exercise nutrition, food nutrition and nutrition science. A nutritionist may develop, implement and evaluate food and nutrition policies and campaigns to improve the population’s health; apply physiological, biochemical and nutritional principles to the management of diet and performance in athletes; deal with ingredients, allergens, policy, legislation and regulations when developing or reformulating food and drink products; or study metabolic and physiological responses of the human body to food and nutrients. Our course includes a 12-week, full-time placement and a research project in the fourth year, providing you with the opportunity to specialise in the areas of nutrition that interest you most and enhance your employability. The course is accredited by the Association for Nutrition. This means that graduates are eligible to apply for direct entry to the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) as Registered Associate Nutritionists.
