Course summary
This Higher Technical Qualification is a level 5 work-based learning course validated by Sheffield Hallam University. The course combines care sector experience from existing employment within the sector or industry-based work experience with academic studies. It may be used as a pathway into a variety of health and social care careers or to further your studies which may include direct entry onto the second year of degree programmes within Sheffield Hallam such as Nursing, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. It is an ideal course for students who have just completed a level 3 qualification, or for those currently working within the industry and wish to further their careers.
Modules
Within year 1 your studies will include level 4 units: Reflective and personal development skills Integrated holistic assessment and delivery of Health and Social Care Interventions Essential Science for Person-Centred Care Work based learning alongside industry work experience Within year 2 you will study the following level 5 units: Promoting health, wellbeing, and independence Using and evaluating evidence to inform practice Leadership and management Work based learning alongside industry work experience
Assessment method
You will be expected to attend college 1.5 days a week and complete the required minimum 400 hours industry based work experience across the two years. Learning will take place through discussions, presentations, practical activities, academic writing and reflections of work based learning.

Qualification requirements
You will need a Level 3 qualification and Maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or above. Students with the relevant work experience may be exempt from the Level 3 requirement but should have achieved the GCSE requirements.
