Course summary
The BA (Hons) course emphasises the creative use of photography and other lens based media across a wide range of subject areas and applications. The course encourages the exploration of contemporary practice and includes critical and contextual modules. Traditional techniques and practices are investigated alongside digital practice and output. This is a visual communication course structured to provide a route into employment in Photography, Creative Media and associated industries. Individual project briefs enable learners to achieve their full potential using technical and critical skills relevant to their specific pathways. The BA prepares learners for a career in the design industry, through the development of design skills, technical and professional expertise.

Typical Course Structure: Year 1, Conceptualisation, Historical and Contextual Studies 1, Materials Processes/Theory (generic), Digital Workshop Practices, Brand Identity and Design for Audiences, Specialist Practice. Year 2, Landscape Photography, Advertising Imaging & Output, Technical Change & Cultural Continuity, Fashion Photography, Portrait Photography, Editorial Image Making. Year 3, Historical and Contextual Studies 2, Marketing an Arts Business, Final Major Project Preparation, Business Practice, Final Major Project Reflective Evaluation, Final Major Project.

Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary.
The Career Degree bursary was established in order to enhance our Higher Education students’ academic programme and support their studies - helping to make our students more employable, industry prepared and equipped for life as a graduate.
A bursary of up to £500 for full-time students over the course of their programme to support any aspect of independent study or compulsory course specific costs.
In addition, course coordinators will be allocated an additional payment to spend each academic year on enhancements that will support the development of employability skills and progression to graduate level employment.
Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.
