Course summary
Study the history of art at a university with its very own on-campus art gallery and great connections to Birmingham’s art scene. Gain the practical and analytical skills that you need to work in a range of careers, including the arts and cultural sectors. Develop a critical understanding of both individual artworks and overarching genres and styles - study across exciting mediums, from sculpture and paintings to photography and performance. Why study this course?
- Attend seminars and events at our art gallery on campus which houses works by famous artists such as; Van Gogh, Monet, Turner, Magritte and Kollwitz.
- Get practical arts experience with our Inside the Gallery and Professional Skills modules - learn how to curate an exhibition and engage with Birmingham city's lively scene bursting with artistic venues and opportunities.
- Get involved with our active Art History department - publish exhibition reviews on our official blog, the Golovine, and join our student society, HartSoc.
Modules
First-year modules cover a broad base of the subject and are designed to introduce you to ways of studying at university. By the final year the modules you take will become more specialised and reflect the research expertise of the academic staff. More detailed module information can be found on the course page.
