Course summary

Our Finance and Data Analytics course is aimed at those looking to develop their skills in analysing complex data to make informed financial decisions in a fast-changing global market. Through access to industry-standard software and practical hands-on projects, you’ll graduate with the technical expertise and analytical mindset valued by employers. This course is part of our Finance MSc programme. All students complete the same core finance modules, then from the end of the first semester you will be able to specialise in one of five areas. Other specialisms offered are:

  • Economics and Finance MSc

Modules

In your first semester you will study core modules: Economics of Financial Markets, Financial Theory and Practice, Research Methods for Finance and Economics. Semester 2 introduces specialist modules: Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in Data, Applied Econometrics and Financial Time Series Analysis, and Financial Risk Management. During the summer you will complete your final project – dissertation, work placement project or live brief.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements listed here are our typical offer for this course. They should be used as a general guide. Normally a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject is required. Work experience is useful but not essential. Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications may be considered. If you are unsure whether you meet the entry requirements then please contact us. International students who need help meeting the academic entry requirements should contact our International College. Applicants who hold an HND or foundation degree equivalent can take our nine-month Business BSc top-up degree and then progress onto this masters degree. IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element. International students whose language skills do not match the IELTS scores set out here should consider applying for this course through the Extended Masters programme at the university's Language Institute.
