Course summary
- To provide masters level ‘top-up’ education to BEng graduates in Civil Engineering that raises their educational base to be equivalent to that from an accredited MEng programme in providing the base required to achieve CEng professional qualifications;
- Through an explicit conversion route within the programme, to provide a route for students with non-accredited Engineering degrees (e.g. BSc) to obtain an accredited qualification that enables them (with additional assessment of their undergraduate academic qualifications) to achieve professional qualifications.
- Through the conversion route, also to provide a route for graduates with cognate backgrounds (e.g. other branches of Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science) to Discipline-hop into Civil Engineering and bring interdisciplinary skills into the industry.
- To enable individuals to explain, classify and investigate various types of marine renewable energy resources and analyse the key energy converters; to describe the fundamental and applied aspects of physical oceanography, buoyancy and stability of floating bodies and marine structures; and to participate in a major design experience of marine renewable energy systems, incorporating realistic constraints that include technical, economic, environmental, ethical, social, and liability considerations; emphasis is placed on teamwork.
