Course summary
The MEd Creative Education at the RCA brings together people, ideas and disciplines in a community that experiments with learning as much as teaching, helping you design and deliver education in formal and informal contexts. You engage with themes such as curriculum design, the pedagogies of making, and education for change reflecting on your own values, perspectives and experiences as a creative educator. Through action research and independent study, you develop a research project that puts your pedagogical principles into practice, gaining confidence in translating theory into real-world educational design. Please refer to the programme webpage for the most accurate and up-to-date information about the programme, its structure, modules and any updates or changes. About RCA: The Royal College of Art is the world’s leading postgraduate art and design university, providing students with unrivalled opportunities to develop their practice, build their networks, enhance their career and to deliver art and design projects that transform the world. Modules
In term 1, you take Foundations of Learning, which explores the ideas and debates around creative education, reflecting on your own experiences, values, and how they connect to broader theory. Term 2 In term 2, you take Designs for Learning, which investigates how to design inclusive creative education methods across different learning environments (e.g. campus-based, blended or online). You also take Experiments in Learning: Project. You conduct, analyse and present a self-directed action research project, reflecting directly on your own educational practice. Term 3 In term 3, you take Independent Research Project: Proposal and Project, where you bring together your learning to develop and realise a major research project in creative education, grounded in your pedagogical principles. Electives Throughout the year, you choose two college-wide elective units.
