Course summary
Studying for a degree with an integrated foundation year will offer you a supportive environment if you have been out of education for a few years or do not have the necessary UCAS points from your recent course of study. The Foundation Year (Animal Science) is the first year of a four-year undergraduate degree. Following the completion of the foundation year students will progress onto their pre chosen animal science degree pathway. This comprehensive course is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in various disciplines related to animal science, enabling you to apply your skills across a wide range of fields. Throughout your studies, you will gain a deep understanding of biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, health and disease, breeding and reproduction, nutrition, and behaviour. Our programme emphasises the integration of pure and applied sciences in the study of animals and can be studied over three years full-time or six years part-time. You will not only acquire practical and laboratory skills but also delve into the underlying biological principles of biochemistry, genetics, and animal growth alongside core subjects of behaviour and nutrition. Allowing you to develop a strong scientific understanding of animal biology and its implications for animal health, disease, growth, and development.
