Course summary

The BA (Hons) in Marketing is an exciting, CIM accredited degree which is continually reviewed, to reflect emergent themes such as disruptive technologies and to reflect changing graduate needs in areas of design, digital skills and creativity. Starting with an underpinning of the modern marketing mix (MMM) in the first year, with assessment based on real life marketing problems, you will continue your studies with modules investigating the psychology of consumer behaviour and the contemporary world of branding, before analysing the components of digital marketing campaigns and specialising in areas of luxury marketing. Opportunities to study Photoshop, InDesign, video editing and Google Analytics are embedded within the module content. You will also have the option to gain the CIM Certificate in Marketing in your 2nd or final years. To enhance employability skills, the marketing learning is complemented with options to study in key business areas such as human resources, accounts, law, research skills and operations, or project, management. In the final year, modules in global marketing and agency life, are studied alongside a consultancy project, prior to undertaking a marketing internship for 10 weeks or 2 optional taught modules. (or you can opt to study marketing communications alongside a traditional management project.) This subject can also be combined with other subjects to create a joint degree: Business Studies, Event Management, Human Resource Management, International English Studies, Software Development for Business and Tourism Management.

Year One In your first year you will study the modern marketing mix to give you a solid overview of marketing and develop your skills in solving marketing problems. Year Two In your second year, you will focus on marketing campaign planning, brands and branding and gain specialist knowledge in luxury brand development and marketing. You will also begin to focus on your own employability and career preparation, with modules aimed at developing your professional experience and skills ready for the workplace. Year Three Your third year allows you to take our optional ‘Agency Life’ module, in which you will have the chance to work directly with a real-world client to help them solve a marketing problem as you start your very own agency. This module provides an alternative to the traditional written dissertation and allows you to gain vital experience to help you stand out in a competitive and exciting industry. In addition, you will study marketing strategy formulation and have the option of studying a range of related modules such as global business, business ethics or entrepreneurship, so you are ready for your professional career in a continuously changing business environment.

Assessment method

Our assessments are more aligned with an authentic workplace, where most of your assignments involve working on live client projects individually or collaboratively. Assessments will also include creating business reports, presentations, and portfolios that develop your critical thinking skills and a solution-focused approach which is vital in the workplace. Some of your work may be more practical, for example posters, websites, blogs, and social media. If you are pursuing professional association qualifications these will incorporate a small number of exams.
