Course summary
Businesses and governments rely on economists to help them examine issues, identify trends and deal with uncertainty. Throughout the course, we’ll challenge you to think about choices people make and how those decisions affect every aspect of our lives. You’ll explore everything from employment to distribution of wealth and government spending to international trade. We’ve designed the first year of this course to explore topics in micro and macroeconomics, statistics and mathematics, global economic history and develop your critical and ethical thinking. We also aim to enhance your communication and adaptability skills as part of your personal and professional development. Whilst you will continue working on your employability profile in your second year, you will also engage with environmental and ecological economics to broaden your perspective on natural capital. Furthermore, you’ll advance your micro and macroeconomics knowledge, and you will engage with advanced statistics and forecasting techniques for analysing a wide range of real-life challenges. In your final year, you will deepen your knowledge of the key economics branches, including putting your data handling skills to the test in the Advanced Econometrics module. You will also choose an optional module to match your interests and career goals. Employability will be also the essence of your personal and professional development in the final year, where through mock interviews and assessment centre practice, we will prepare you for graduate-level jobs.
