Course summary

If you are a diagnostic radiographer wanting to enhance your professional career, then our course - accredited by the College of Radiographers - will enable you to enhance your interest and career in MRI. Our MSc will build on your experience in magnetic resonance imaging. It will teach you the academic knowledge and safe clinical practice to enhance your abilities to work as a reflective practitioner and advance your career. And, it has a long-standing high reputation in the MRI community – it has been running since 1996 in Lancaster. Many MRI radiographers in senior positions in departments have either been students themselves or a mentor for students on the course. This shows the long standing relationship we have had with many departments and their staff: you would be entering a course that is very well regarded in the MRI community. Course Overview Your learning will be enhanced with plenty of discussion with expert practitioners in MRI physics and clinical MRI. Excellent networking opportunities will be available as, historically, we have taught students from all over the UK – from Aberdeen (North Scotland) to Plymouth (South England) and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. They have joined us from the NHS, university research departments and private providers. On this course you will...

  • Develop your understanding and clinical expertise in the theory and application of MRI, preparing you for the next stage in your career in MRI.
  • Facilitate and support effective learning and develop students’ abilities to reflect on their professional practice so that they will continue as independent practitioners with a commitment to lifelong learning, scholarship and research.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of MRI and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights, much of which is at, or informed by, the forefront of their areas of professional practice.
  • Develop the students’ enthusiasm for, and knowledge and understanding of, the continually expanding field of MRI by developing the transferable skills expected of the postgraduate student in health care who is able to recognise the interface between academic and applied clinical working and is able to manage and adapt to the rapidly changing technological, medico-legal and ethical frameworks of the National Health Service.
