Designed with the busy professional in mind, the Masters in Enhanced Practice in Education will provide you with the skills and confidence to make effective changes in your place of work. You will develop expertise to initiate and influence positive working relationships across your organisation and beyond. WHY THIS PROGRAMME

  • This programme is designed for people at different stages in their professional careers from a range of backgrounds in education and allied fields such as social work, psychology, health, and policing.
  • Many of the courses on this programme offer increased flexibility and convenience through a mix of blended learning, twilight campus lectures and weekend seminars designed with the busy professional in mind.
  • There is a focus on collaborative learning, drawing on your own experiences and those of your academic colleagues.
  • The programme will help you develop evidence-based leadership approaches and practices in critical reflection that you can apply in relation to your own practice.
  • Research-informed courses will help you to consider practice and policy in the light of current educational thinking and enable you to improve your own practice to become an effective practitioner.
  • Our optional courses ‘Critical Perspectives on Knowledge and Power’ and ‘Critical Thinking and Communication’ will deepen your understanding of organisational power underpinning knowledge creation.
  • Our ‘Working in an Interagency Environment’ course is one of the only available courses of its kind outside UK local government.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE You will take four core and two optional courses, followed by a research project or work placement. The research project provides an opportunity for you to identify an area of personal and professional interest to explore in more detail. If you work directly with young people (teachers, social workers, youth workers, police officers, probation officers, health workers), this programme can be an important step in your professional development. The programme will support your career development as a class teacher, lecturer, policy developer, special education professional, head teacher, education administrator or researcher. The programme provides a foundation for further academic study such as a professional doctorate.

Entry requirements

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in Education, Sociology, Psychology, or Social Work OR 2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in any subject, with minimum 1 year experience working in an education, social, welfare, policy or 3rd sector role. We may sometimes accept degrees at 2.2 Hons or non-UK equivalent. Applicants should have experience working with children, young people or adult learners. We may also accept applicants with significant relevant work experience in addition to lower qualifications.
