Course summary
Are you an engineer or professional interested in a future environment that’s operation-efficient and in line with the UK’s carbon emissions reduction goals? Our MSc Civil Engineering with Sustainability provides the advanced training you need. The course is multidisciplinary, and you’ll work on designing systems that are resilient to extreme climates and emerging hazards, including climate-resilient infrastructure. This course uses the concepts of civil engineering and adaptation to build your understanding of sustainability and eco-friendly structural engineering. We aim to train structural design engineers who have a fair understanding of materials and methods to design low whole-life carbon structures.
Modules
Year 1 core modules: Mental Wealth: Professional Life (Engineering Management), Applied Research and Engineering Practice 1, Advanced Structural Analysis, Circular Economy and Sustainability. Optional modules include Environmental Sustainable Engineering and Logistics, Environmental Impact Assessment, Design in Steel and Concrete, Highway and Railway Engineering, Soil Structure Engineering, Structural Dynamics and Stability, Machine Learning on Big Data, and Intelligent Transport Systems. Year 2 offers an optional Industrial Sandwich Placement.
Assessment method
Assessment will be via a broad range of vehicles including written examinations, presentations, coursework and viva (for dissertation). You will have access to and use a number of digital tools in completing your assessment, including Microsoft Teams.
Entry requirements
Accepted Qualifications Bachelor's degree BEng with minimum Second Class (2:2) or BSc with minimum Upper Second Class (2:1) in Civil Engineering.
