Course summary

The LLB (Hons) Programme is a one-year full time or two-year part-time programme that tops up your foundational studies to a full LLB (Hons) Law degree. Applications from students who have completed other programmes will be considered on a case by case basis but typically students will have completed any one of the following programmes: - • FdSc Law • FdSc Law with Business • FdSc Law with Criminology and Criminal Justice The programme satisfies the requirements of the academic stage of training for the legal profession in England and Wales. It is a ‘qualifying’ law degree. The LLB (Hons) Law programme at the University Centre Truro and Penwith provides an opportunity for students to gain a full honours degree in Law in Cornwall (following completion of FdSc Law with Criminology and Criminal Justice or FdSc Law with Business). The programme has been designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to enter the legal profession or to take advantage of other graduate opportunities. It also creates a platform from which students can undertake additional academic, vocational or professional qualifications. The programme has been designed to cover the Foundations of Legal Knowledge recognised by the profession. Students will have already studied Contract Law, Criminal Law, Public Law and Tort Law. This course extends the repertoire to include International and European Law, Land Law and The Law of Trusts. Students will complete a dissertation on a topic of their choice linked to their studies and also have the option of studying one of the following modules to reflect their interest: - • Environmental Law • Pro-Bono • Business and Employment Law The qualification is extremely portable – it meets the standards recognised across England and Wales for entry into the legal profession and allows you to gain your degree in Cornwall. We timetable classes to ensure that contact hours are compressed into just two days. This makes it easier for our students to work alongside their classes and to meet the demands of life outside employment and study. Module content is industry led and employability skills are embedded throughout with excellent University Centre and staff links to the local Profession. Although law is taught in an academic context there is a strong practical focus to the programme. Whilst the teaching of soft skills and selected legal practice skills will have been provided in previous study, this programme enables students to consolidate their experiences so far and to build upon them in a contextual and applied way.
