International Media and Communication Studies and Modern Languages

Course summary

How does media shape society? And how far can its influence reach? On this course, you’ll explore the political, social and cultural impacts of media and communication. We’ll take your learning beyond those initial explorations to examine themes on a global scale. This will help you to understand international diversity and develop a sensitive global perspective. Learning a language is integral to this degree because it gives you the key to understanding media texts in their original language. As part of your language learning, you will spend a year abroad. Many of our students say is their course highlight and find that they return more independent and confident, with experiences and skills that make them stand out to future employers. You’ll study media and communications alongside a language of your choice.

  • Languages offered from beginners’ level: French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian/Croatian and Spanish
