Course summary

This new course enhances the undergraduate portfolio by offering specialist provision in the area of Football Development in response to a request from The Football Association (FA) to collaborate in addressing an identified gap in education provision in Football Development. It provides an opportunity for existing and aspiring football industry professionals to develop critical understanding and application of the various constituent components of football development at grassroots and elite levels in a variety of industry contexts. The curriculum for this ground-breaking course has been developed by a team of specialists and experienced academic staff, working in collaboration with experts from the Grassroots Football Division within the FA. These individuals bring a wealth of practical experience, having worked extensively in the field as industry specialists. Staff expertise will be used to develop a curriculum that examines topics including, but not limited to: principles of football development; applied football development; the business of grassroots football; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and safeguarding in football, a work placement and research in industry. The curriculum will be enhanced via the involvement of external speakers and content contributors from the wider football industry. Students will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and to demonstrate their understanding through a curriculum and assessment strategy that is built on real-world scenarios, case studies and a work placement.
