Studying for a degree with a foundation year provides a great opportunity if you have the ability and enthusiasm to study a degree but lack the level of qualifications needed or have not been in higher education for some time. Business Management will provide you with the skills to progress and succeed in many types of business, become a business advisor or even set up your own business. Why study at Bellmont? The world of Business Management is fast-moving and dynamic: Business organisations are facing unprecedented change and complex challenges both within the UK and globally. This demands that students who enter the business sector understand the dynamics of the business environment and how organisations operate in increasingly uncertain situations. The Business Management degree with Foundation examines small to medium-sized enterprises to global multi-national companies – public, private, not-for-profit with a focus on business principles, organisational dynamics and management processes. This in-depth degree gives you the opportunity to understand how businesses operate and the ethical and social impact they have on communities. An experienced, student-focused team will develop your understanding of this business context and develop the critical business skills and transferable skills that future employers will demand. Our flexible teaching allows you to study in the daytime, evenings and weekends – so you can study at times that work for you. You can also start your degree with foundation year at different times of the year, with start dates in September, November, March and May. You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced lecturers and your assignments and activities will be carefully designed to ensure that what is learnt is put into practice. We welcome mature students and all applications will be dealt with on an individual basis.
Modules
The foundation year is split into two 60 credit blocks: Block 1: Foundations of Business -This block introduces students to a number of key areas, beginning with the development of a Business idea and how to create, communicate and execute a business plan. Block 2: Foundations in Management Skills - In this block, students will be focusing on the broader business management skills required to work as a professional in a corporate or creative environment. You will progress onto Introduction to Business Management, where you will be introduced to the underlying principles of Business Management that will lay the foundations for progression through the degree. Students will examine what a business is, how it interacts with it’s environment, serves it’s customers and manages competition. In the third year you will be introduced to the dynamic relationship between a variety of business functions and management. This will allow them to consider the operational challenges facing contemporary organisations. Single honours students will also consider the wider international, economic and ethical framework within which organisations operate. In the final year, students will take on more strategic, global and contemporary perspectives in the final year. They will also undertake a research project/dissertation on an organisational issue of their choice. At this point, the course will adopt a more strategic lens, through which to consider the nature and scope of business and management in an ever changing, increasingly global and dynamic context. Both academic and professional competence will be refined in the final year. Critical evaluation is a key component at this level of study and this will lay the foundations for reflective thinkers and practitioners. The undertaking of an individual research project or dissertation will help students develop a proactive mind-set that will prepare them for the world of work or further study.
