Course summary

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Professions’ Support for England is designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas or on to pre-registration study. The Level 5 Higher National Diploma offers one optional unit for students who wish to concentrate on a particular aspect of healthcare practice. Learners will complete work-based experience as part of the programme which will greatly enhance their employability on completion of the programme. The programme is designed for learners from a variety of areas. A blend of learners who are for example, working and will be new or returning to Higher Education, or learners who have some experience the Health and Social Care environment.

Modules

The HND is comprised on six 15 credit modules (one of which is optional) and one 30 credit module: -Innovation and Improvement through Participatory Action Research (30 credits) -Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centred Practice -Care Planning Processes in Healthcare Practice -Recognising and Meeting the Needs of Individuals with Long-term Health Conditions -Team and Individual Leadership: Mentoring and Coaching Others -End of Life Care Planning and Support. -Pharmacology and Medicine Management (optional unit)

Assessment method

The emphasis throughout the programme is on the use of a variety of assessment methods designed to support the development of the learner's knowledge and understanding. This will be formative and summative in order to ensure development and learning through and around the sessions, to provide a formal method of success. Learners where possible, will use their workplace as a focus for their written assignments, encouraging the integration and comparison of theory to practice. Work based Learning and employer engagement are facilitated through the Personal Development Process, and learners will collate a Practical Learning and Assessment and Development Portfolio (PLAD).

Learners will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Scheme check to confirm their suitability to meet the work- based requirements, and will be required to complete a minimum of 225 hours in a relevant setting in the sector. (This includes a further 225 hours completed to achieve the HNC)
