Course summary

This course prepare students for a rewarding career as a nursing associate, gaining skills through a combination of theoretical study, simulated practice and clincal experience. Nursing associates contribute to most aspects of care, including delivery and monitoring, and work together with the healthcare teams to deliver the best and safest care. This 2-year programme, validated by the Nursing and Midwifery council, equips students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to care for patients across the 4 fields of nursing in various settings. It prepares students to become accountable professionals, promoting health and preventing ill health, providing and monitoring care, working in teams, improving safety and quality of care and contributing to integrated care. Students spend half of their time learning through theory and simulated practice and half their time on clinical placements which take place at leading London healthcare trusts. Our clinical skills and simulated practice sessions, delivered in our well-equipped Clinical Skills Centre, allow students to develop competence and confidence in the role of nursing associate in a controlled and safe environment. This course is recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC); On successful graduation students are eligible to apply for registration with the NMC as a nursing associate. Students can also go on to further study at Bachelor’s level, including City’s BSc nursing courses, which include Adult Nursing, Children’s Nursing or Mental Health Nursing. If progressing onto one of these BSc’s after graduating from the nursing associate course, students are able to enter at year 2, therefore completing the BSc in 2 years rather than the usual 3 years.
