Join the search for solutions to crime at one of the UK’s leading centres in the field of criminology. We were one of the first universities to teach Criminology over 50 years ago. You’ll investigate current criminology issues like artificial intelligence, modern day slavery, and cyber-terrorism alongside research leaders who are still at the forefront today. Our purpose-built replica Crime Scene Training Facility, field trips to courts, police stations and prisons, and placement opportunities with criminal justice agencies like Humberside Police, will help put the theory into practice and develop the career-ready skills you need to succeed in the industry. The Foundation Year is an extra year of study at the start of your degree. It’s designed to boost your academic skills and knowledge of your specialist area. When you successfully complete it, you can transfer seamlessly into the full degree programme. Why study at Hull?
- Go behind the scenes: Get to grips with collecting evidence in our purpose-built replica Crime Scene Training Facility. We’re one of the few universities in the UK with this facility.

Assessment method
You'll be assessed through a combination of written, practical and coursework assessments throughout your degree. Written assessment typically includes exams and multiple choice tests. Practical is an assessment of your skills and competencies. This could include presentations, school experience, work experience or laboratory work. Coursework typically includes essays, written assignments, dissertations, research projects or producing a portfolio of your work.

The foundation year is designed for applicants whose qualifications and experience do not allow direct entry to the undergraduate degree. We expect applicants to demonstrate an experience of a related subject and an aptitude for academic work which may be determined by an essay and/or interview alongside the application. For applicants with Level 3 qualifications, we will usually require a minimum of 80 points.
