Why study Psychology and Business Management at Aberystwyth University? This course is collaboratively taught by Aberystwyth Business School and the Department of Psychology. The syllabus of this course will provide you with an over-aching integrative view of the impact of the psychological drivers and influences for business efficacy leading to improved financial performance. The degree is delivered through novel student collaborative approaches providing wider and more sophisticated perspectives and ultimately a thorough understanding of cultural interactions and international outlooks. The Business Management element led by Aberystwyth Business School is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Psychology element is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) allowing distinct career trajectories; one in professional management and the other in professional Psychology alongside careers that seamlessly blend these components (for example experts in Organisational Behaviour, or Human Resource Management). What will I learn? The holistic approach of business and management teaching in your first year explores foundational elements so you discover and understand the fundamental principles of business. These include the mechanisms by which management is discharged in various industries, the impact of the business environment on performance, and the mediating impact of macro-environmental elements (such as Brexit, COVID-19) have on management. Additionally, the contemporary mechanisms by which organisations communicate value propositions to customers and markets are explored. Within Psychology, a similar foundational route is undertaken and you will explore social and individual behaviour, brain cognition, historical issues in psychology and importantly you will begin to understand the inter-related nature of the individual, society and culture to business practice. In your second and third year, you will undertake core business and management psychology concepts that include organisational behaviour and theory, impacts of market structures and pricing strategies, the effective development and utilisation of industry specific techniques for operations management. Additionally, the impacts of human resource and talent management on executing organisational management and leadership planning are introduced and mastered. To solidify your understanding, you will also have the opportunity to apply the theories identified above into an independent research project allowing you to explore the analytical skills associated with business excellence. Employability An over-aching aim of this degree is to provide you with the essential and career-expected graduate competences that differentiate you during your early career stages; optimising the effective transition from campus to career. Many of our graduates have initiated careers in key industries which include accounting and finance, investment banking, risk management, insurance and underwriting, similarly graduates are in high-demand for more general management professions that include retail management, the public sector, the NHS, distribution and logistics management.

A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Business, Mathematics, Psychology and Science degree schemes also require a minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent).
