Chemical engineers design, operate and optimise chemical and physical processes that turn raw materials into valuable products for human use. They also use their skills to dispose of the by-products generated by these processes in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner. This professionally accredited degree course provides knowledge and skills across the full spectrum of chemical engineering topics, allowing you to keep your career options open. As you progress, your growing analytical abilities will combine with hands-on experience, establishing skills which are vital to securing employment in the chemical engineering industry. The fourth year of this 5-year course with a Year in Industry will be spent on placement. You will have the opportunity to gain real-world industry experience and develop your employability skill set. We have a strong network of industry contacts, and you will receive dedicated support from our employability team, ranging from CV advice through to mock interviews.
Modules
In Year 1, you will typically study areas including: Chemical Process Principles, Chemical Engineering Laboratory, Heat Transfer, Chemical Engineering Skills. In Year 2, you will typically study areas including: Separation Processes, Thermodynamics of Process Design, Fluid Flow. In Year 3, you will typically study areas including: Safety and Loss Prevention, Reactor Design, Process Equipment Design. In Year 4, you will typically undertake an Industrial Placement Year. In Year 5, you will typically study areas including: Industrial Engineering and Research Practice, Complex Fluids and Flows, Colloid and Interface Science. You will also undertake a Chemical and Environmental Engineering MEng Design Project.
