Course summary

Whether you have an interest in Interactive Design, Design for Solutions or Digital Design, this course offers an exciting and dynamic range of skill development covering both the creative and technical aspects of design. This interdisciplinary degree will enable you to develop the professional skills ready for a broad range of roles within the contemporary design economy. Today's design industry no longer demands specialists but rather designers who work within many visual fields. The course promotes design learning through establishing an understanding of many creative methods, encouraging your own approach to design thinking and establishing you as an innovator within established areas of design. Through studio sessions you will continually engage with ethical and theoretical debate around the roles of the designer, as well as practical application across disciplines such as Graphics, 3D Design, Multimedia, Web design, Motion graphics, Illustration and Photography. As students build relationships freely across this broad range of disciplines they will have the opportunities to either engage more within a particular skill or continue to innovate across disciplines. We prepare students to work as part of a team as well as individually, establishing design skills in a market context. This course is designed for people who want to become well-qualified and highly-skilled professionals in design, so the emphasis is on developing ideas and acquiring an understanding of a range of media. You will learn to find innovative design solutions to briefs, gain confidence in handling a wide range of software, become effective team workers and creative designers, skilled in presenting yourself and your ideas. What qualification will I achieve? A BA (Hons) Design, awarded by the University of East Anglia, subject to validation.

Assessment method

In the first year you will have five modules assessed with practical projects, four projects in year 2 and three projects in the 3rd year which will include an end of year public degree show, as a culmination of your three years of study. In addition there will be one critical study each year, which enables you to explore the language and impact of design in a written manner.
