Course summary
The Foundation Degree in Scenic Construction is a two-year programme which starts in August each year. The programme has been developed in response to the acute shortage of suitably qualified entry-level technicians to build sets for the rapidly expanding Theatre, Film and Television industries in Wales and beyond. Key Features:
- Technical Skills - taught skills in carpentry, metalwork, welding, fork lift truck driving, core computer software packages & access equipment training
- Industry Practice - develop an insight into the theatre & television industry
- Professional Placements - five placements across the two years, either at RWCMD’s workshop & theatres or with industry partners
- Industry Partners - Bay Productions, Cardiff Theatrical Services, Bad Wolf (4Wood) & Wild Creations
- Top up Degree - the option to top up to BA (Hons) Design for Performance.

Qualification requirements
Students should normally be working towards their Level 3 or equivalent qualifications although the College will consider applications from people over the age of 18 with relevant skills and/or experience in craft, design and technology. We recommend that you use the personal statement on your application form to demonstrate your interest in theatre/film/TV and any relevant experience. Final selection will be made on the basis of an interview.
