Course summary

Explore the creation of sound and music for film, TV, animation, games, theatre and radio with our highly collaborative degree in Sound Design. If you are interested in creating sound and music for film, games, television or drama, this course could be perfect for you. The course is highly flexible, so you can personalise it to match your interests. A range of optional modules will enable you to develop your skills in areas such as music composition, electronics, creating software tools, acoustics and the film industry. You will have access to our world-class recording and post-production facilities, which include professional sound studios, Foley pit, and TV studio. We also have accredited Avid and Apple trainers, enabling you to gain additional qualifications in Logic and Pro Tools at extra cost. On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Sound Design By the end of Level 3 (Foundation Year), you will have built up your academic skills profile and enhanced your knowledge and understanding of the different theoretical, practical and technical aspects of the Music and Sound portfolio.

Modules

The Foundation Year comprises of core modules that will allow students to build knowledge and understanding to prepare for study at the higher levels: Digital Skills for Music and Sound Introduction to Music and Sound Investigating Music and Sound Music and Sound in Context The entire program of study across all years is built around a project-based learning environment at each level that is housed within our own music production facility, namely Phoenixx. Each year, students will opt for a project framework, aligned to their chosen pathway specialism, and build their own learning unit program. This hyper-personalised study route allows for individual mentorship and guidance from the tutor teams ensuring each student has precisely what they need in terms of skill, knowledge and understanding at each year of study. Students will engage with core learning units that are delivered as either technical instruction, theoretical knowledge or online models, all of which map to each specialism pathway. The remainder of the learning unit requirements at each level can then be tailored to each individual students’ needs and can be taken from a range of other subject and interdisciplinary options. All of which contribute to the students’ end of year project.
