Explore another culture on this BA Ancient History and Archaeology with Year Abroad degree. Learn about the ancient world and find ways to understand the foundations of how we live today. From Ancient Egypt to the rise of Islam in the Middle East. You can also learn what happened during the conquests of Alexander the Great and at the end of the Roman Empire. You’ll have the chance to engage with topics you are already passionate about, or to try something entirely new. This might mean application of cutting-edge technology to discover and map new sites, or develop complimentary archival research skills. You'll gain at least 3 weeks of practical experience of field work, including excavating archaeological sites and collecting archaeological material from ploughed fields. Studying abroad for a year will enable you to explore another culture. You'll spend your third year at a partner university in Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea or Australia. Our Digital Humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre.
Modules
You will study a variety of topics that cover the fundamental aspects of Ancient History and Archaeology and you will have the opportunity to tailor your course to your interests by choosing some of your modules. Assessment method
On this course you will learn through a range of activities that may include lectures, classes and tutorials, coursework, individual and group projects, and independent learning (studying on your own). You will be able to demonstrate what you have learnt through a variety of assessment methods, such as examinations, essays, extended essays, practical assignments in both the laboratory and the field, presentations, portfolios and the dissertation. You’ll be supported by a personal academic tutor who will offer support and advice throughout your studies. You will also receive feedback throughout your course, enabling you to identify areas for improvement before your work is formally assessed.
