Course summary
Bring your unique style and photographic vision to the world of editorial fashion with Solent’s fashion photography degree. You’ll learn technical photography skills and develop your knowledge using our industry-standard photography, make-up and styling studios. You'll also gain an in-depth knowledge of fashion industry practices and the day-to-day operation of fashion businesses. On this creative degree, you will be supported to develop practical photography skills while studying fashion and photography theory. You will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through our in-house creative agency, Solent Creatives, and recent students have also been involved with the University organised Southampton Fashion Week. Throughout your studies you will have access to a range of professional photography facilities to hone your skills, including nine photography studios (including a specialist Infinity Cove), make-up studios, Mac suites and digital reprographics rooms for high quality professional prints. The University holds many links with industry professionals, enabling you to benefit from a range of guest lectures and work experience opportunities. Recent students have enjoyed work placements at companies such as Topman, Fat Face, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk and Good Fibres. The course places a strong emphasis on equipping you with the skills and knowledge required by employers. Reflecting this, previous graduates have gone on to work at renowned fashion companies like Karen Millen, Marks and Spencer, Coast and the London School of Modelling in roles such as creative media photographer, fashion stylist, visual stylist, production coordinator, model scout and booker. Solent is one of the few universities in the UK that combine the disciplines of fashion, photography, fashion film and multi-media production into a full degree qualification.
