Play, design and build games at our development studio as you create a portfolio to launch your career as a games developer, with our Computer Games Technology degree in Cambridge. Accredited by TIGA, our Computer Games Technology course will help you turn your love of computer games into a career. Working at our development studio in Cambridge – close to the tech hub of ‘Silicon Fen’ – you’ll be located right at the heart of the computer gaming industry in the UK. From the very beginning of your studies, you’ll create and develop your own games. Everything you design will build into a valuable portfolio to help you secure your dream job in the gaming industry when you graduate. ARU is the place to be for studying Computer Games Technology. The East of England has 135 active games companies, with Cambridge home to developers including Jagex, Frontier Developments and Ninja Theory, who are based around the corner from Compass House our Computer Games Development studio. Based in our gaming and technology hub, you'll enjoy having the latest technology at your fingertips and collaborating with other students on innovative projects. You’ll improve your prospects with live briefs and guest speakers from tech giants like Sony, Jagex and Frontier. There’s even opportunities to take part in events with industry reps, too, like our annual gaming-inspired event Gamebridge. At Gamebridge, students from across the country attend industry-led talks and 1-2-1 portfolio reviews, whilst showcasing their work and networking with companies such as Frontier and Jagex, as well as other like-minded students. During your time at ARU, you’ll also have the opportunity to get a head-start in the computer gaming industry. In recent times, ARM, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Frontier and Just Flight have all offered internships and work opportunities to ARU students. There are lots of placement opportunities with an optional placement year to develop your practical experience. We're also partners with the Global Science & Technology Forum, giving you access to cutting-edge research materials. And with TIGA accreditation, this course gives you a badge of excellence to show future employers too. Industry-standard facilities As a Computer Games Technology student at ARU, you’ll benefit from:

Modules
Year 1 core modules: Foundation in Engineering, Computing and Technology. Year 2 core modules: Game Concepts and Analysis, Programming for Games, Game Engines and Mechanics. Year 3 core modules: Collaborative Games Development, Game Technologies, Technical Development for Games, Ruskin Module. Year 4 core modules: Studio Practice for Games, Major Project for Games. Modules are subject to change and availability.
Assessment method
Throughout the course, we’ll use a range of assessment methods to help measure your progress. You’ll demonstrate your learning through the games you produce, but there will also be a mix of exams, personal learning plans and projects.

Entry requirements
Qualification requirements
5 GCSEs at grade 3, or grade D, or above, (or equivalent) plus evidence of having attempted two years of post GCSE study at level 3. Students who have achieved a minimum of 1 A level (or equivalent), will be exempt from the two year post GCSE requirement (as stated above) but must still hold 5 GCSEs (as stated above). Students without English as their first language will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 5.5 (Academic level with at least 5.5 in each of the four components) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognized by Anglia Ruskin University.
